May Fashion Favorites

1. Chic & Casual

One of my favorite spring 2020 trends are sleek mini dress that can easily be dressed up or down. Simple and neutral tones create for an effortlessly chic look. Small details such as cinching down the sides, finely ribbed material, or a pleated t-shirt style dress adds an interesting texture and design element. My personal favorite way to accessorize this style of dress is with gold hoops, layering necklaces, and a shoulder purse (which is my next fashion fav!)

Princess Polly is a brand that has spearheaded this trend and offers a wide variety of silhouettes and fabrics. The images below are some of my favorites:

2. Bringin’ Back the Shoulder Bag

Shoulder bags have been in and out of style for several decades, and I am so glad that they’re back. They are cute, easy, and convenient. Again, there are so many different styles out there to choose from. Patterned, plain, or textured are some of the ways these bags have been done recently. My patterned Fendi shoulder bag is vintage (shown below), which is a great way to find and add staple pieces to your closet. JW PEI (https://www.jwpei.com/collections/shoulder-bag) has a great collection of purses and they have totally nailed their version of this style of bag. Their Eva Shoulder Bag in croc comes in a variety of colors to either play up and brighten an outfit or neutralize it by staying simple, yet iconic. Another great way to do the shoulder bag is by investing in a quality and classic bag that will last you for ages. A shoulder bag that can also be converted into a longer strapped bag ensures that it will always be in style. I will talk more about why I chose to invest in a designer bag in a future post, but wanted to touch on it a bit for my favorites because I have been loving my Prada Re-Edition 2005 nylon shoulder bag.

3. Patterned Mini’s

Mini skirt are a huge trend this spring and I’m here for it. However, the patterned mini’s are really taking over. From plaid, to floral, to abstract, this fashionable shape is taking on many forms this season. Pair it with a simple crop top, pastel cardigan, or as a matching set and you will instantly look and feel trendy. I compiled some examples from some of my current favorite stores:

4. Buckets on Buckets on Buckets…

Another big trend this season that I am absolutely loving is the bucket hat trend. This cute accessory is perfect for the warmer spring and summer months. This type of look is not for everyone, you either love it or you hate it! For me, I am obsessed with how they can soften a look or add a unique element to an otherwise plain outfit. You can find many famous fashion bloggers and influencer sporting the look, typically pairing the trend with a bikini.

5. Stylish Loungewear

It’s no surprise that most people prefer to be quarantined in something comfortable.. say, sweatpants? However, wearing the same pair of ratty and saggy grey sweatpants constantly will not do wonders for anyone’s self esteem. Especially in today’s day and age with social media. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram can be very harmful to an individual’s self-esteem and mental health with constant access to comparison and negativity online. It is important to be aware of the downsides to social media, but it is a great way to spot current trends. Tie-dyed loungewear (sweatpants/jogger, sets, sports bras, bucket hats, and more) is currently blowing up. The great thing about this trend is you can make it yourself! Not only will you be cute and comfy, but it’s a great activity to keep busy during these self-isolating times. That’s not to say you can’t still buy it if you aren’t the most crafty person. Major retailers, like Frankies Bikinis, PacSun, and Revolve, have all released their own version of this style.
