Room Make Over: Quarantine Edition
Having a living space that I can feel at ease in is an essential aspect of maintaining my mental health. Everyone is different, so this may not be true for you, but I believe that even the smallest changes can create a better atmosphere and therefore a better mindset for almost anyone.
Personally, my room has such a strong impact on my mood. A messy room leads to a messy mind. I feel sluggish, lazy, and overall crap about myself when I am surrounded by clutter. I am not an overly neat or OCD type of person, but I do like to keep things fresh, new, and clean when I can. I am more productive and happy when my space is organized and stylized.
At the start of quarantine, I started to feel the effects of being in isolation and overall very boxed in. My room was decorated in all black and white, which I designed when I was 16 years old. I had no rug, no color, and no livelihood whatsoever in that room. The problem is that I am always on a strict low budget… and a room makeover is not a small, nor cheap, task.
I decided that by trading out some key pieces with some fresh, bright, and colorful items would be enough to make it look and feel like a new space. I kept all the furniture the same and focused on refreshing my bedding, getting a statement piece rug, and adding small decor accents to make it feel a bit more home-y.
Luckily for me, I have worked as a seasonal stylist at Free People for the past 2 years, which gives me a discount at the “sister companies” of Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie. I was able to find quite a few things that fit my now more mature style as well as within my budget.
I have created a public wishlist on Urban Outfitters to share with you all the exact items I purchased (all that were still available on the site):

I was very happy with how it turned out! My space is brighter and more serene, allowing me to feel less stressed and able to be my best self. Although it wasn’t a full transformation, it was what I needed at that point in time. I know that there is more that I would like to upgrade and work on in the future, but for now I am glad to call this home.
